Worker’s Electrocution Death Prompts $291,716 Safety Fine

An Illinois agricultural services company faces a $291,716 safety fine after the electrocution death of a boom operator who tried to move overhead power lines out of the way of a semitrailer, according to Occupational Safety and Health Administration citations released Nov. 14.

The Maplehurst Farms Inc. employee was electrocuted May 28 after a self-powered lifting boom was used to raise the energized power lines to allow the semitrailer to pass, according to OSHA’s summary.
