Work-Related Injury, Illness Rate Stable in 2019, DOL Says (2)

The likelihood of private industry workers becoming injured or sick because of their jobs in 2019 was unchanged from 2018, according to numbers the U.S. Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics released Wednesday.

The occupational injury and illness rate for 2019 and 2018 was 2.8 cases for every 100 full-time equivalent workers, the bureau said. The estimated number of work-related injuries and illness among private-sector workers in 2019 was 2.81 million, about 200,000 fewer than 2018.

Among state and local government workers, the rate was 4.6, down from 4.8 in 2018. Those governments tend to have a higher average ...
