Washington Safety Agency Issues $2 Million Fine in Virus Deaths

A Washington apple and cherry grower has been fined more than $2 million by the state’s Department of Labor & Industries for coronavirus-related violations tied to the deaths of two workers in July.

The citations against the Brewster-based Gebbers Farm Operations LP announced Monday amount to the second-largest penalty ever imposed upon a company by the state.

Gebbers Farm was issued 24 egregious willful violations—12 for unsafe sleeping arrangements and 12 for unsafe worker transportation—with penalties of $84,000 per violation.
