Washington Orchard Resolves $2 Million Fine Tied to Covid Deaths

The Washington State Department of Labor & Industries and an apple and cherry grower have reached a resolution on the near record $2.05 million fine imposed by the agency upon the orchard last year for coronavirus-related violations tied to the deaths of two workers in July.

The agreement states that the company, Gebbers Farm Operations LP of Brewster, Wash., will spend more than $1.4 million in refurbishing worker housing, adding air conditioning, a cellular communications tower, and a soccer field, and hiring a safety and health officer at the farm.
