Tampa Electric Sentenced for Deaths of Five Power Plant Workers

A federal judge ordered Tampa Electric Co. to pay a $500,000 fine and spend three years on probation for the deaths of five workers at a power plant in 2017.

The sentencing Thursday by Judge Charlene Honeywell of the US District Court for the Middle District of Florida matched the recommendation agreed to by the power company and federal prosecutors.

Tampa Electric also agreed to a safety plan that includes hiring an outside firm to monitor its compliance.
