Silica Hazard Alert for Stone Countertop
Industry Recommends Preventative Actions

Employers involved in stone countertop manufacturing, finishing or installation must determine which jobs and activities expose workers to silica and then take actions to prevent overexposure and protect workers, according to a hazard alert issued Feb. 18 by the Labor Department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.

The eight-page alert explains how workers can be exposed to silica dust and the precautions employers should take to lessen or prevent exposure.
