Panel Considers Improving Injury, Illness Data Collection

Workers’ comprehensive insurance data, cancer registries and death certificate records are among the sources for workplace injury and illness data a National Academies of Sciences panel is being urged to consider as the committee looks at improving information about occupational risks.

The panel held its first sessions June 15 and June 16 in Washington and hopes to publish a final report in the summer of 2017. The goal is to develop a vision for a “smarter cost-effective occupational safety and health surveillance system.”
