OSHA Proposes Updates to Forklift Design and Build Safety Rule

Companies designing and manufacturing forklifts will be able to follow more recent industry standards while still complying with OSHA regulations, according to a notice of proposed rulemaking issued Tuesday.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration wants to update the design and manufacturing requirements of its powered industrial trucks standards for general industry and construction by incorporating relevant national consensus standards from the American National Standards Institute/Industrial Truck Standards Development Foundation (ANSI/ITSDF).

OSHA’s standard currently refers to industry consensus standards issued in 1969. The rule would now refer to standards issued as recently as 2000.
