Ontario Equipment Company Fined C$143,750 in Crushing Injury

An Ontario construction equipment seller was fined C$143,750 ($109,250) for a safety violation after a worker’s hand was crushed by falling equipment.

The Ontario Court of Justice levied the fine after Toromont Industries Ltd. pleaded guilty to failing to ensure that machinery was properly secured against tipping or falling and endangering the safety of a worker, the Ontario Ministry of Labour said Jan. 5.

The company violated Section 46 of Ontario Regulation 851 (Industrial Establishments Regulation) and Section 25(1)(c) of the province’s Occupational Health and Safety Act, the ministry said in a statement.
