Mine Safety Complaints May Languish as Review Panel Lacks Quorum

Federal mine safety cases could start backing up now that the five-member review commission responsible for hearing them lost its quorum needed to act.

The Federal Mine Safety and Health Review Commission lost its quorum Aug. 30 when the terms of Commissioner Robert F. Cohen, Jr. and Acting Chairman William Althen expired. In addition, the commission is without a chairman. President Donald Trump’s nominee, Marco M. Rajkovich Jr., has been awaiting Senate confirmation for nearly eight months.
