Mine Agency to Focus on Silica, Not Virus Rule, Official Says

The Mine Safety and Health Administration will rely on regulations already on the books to protect miners from Covid-19 exposure instead of pursuing an emergency temporary standard that would require vaccination or alternative weekly testing.

Agency officials made the decision based on the regulatory strength of the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977 to protect miners, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy Jeannette J. Galanis said during a quarterly public stakeholder call Wednesday.
