A Massachusetts fabrication shop will have to pay $3,500 in penalties for two serious safety violations after a worker lost parts of two fingers on site, a federal appeals court affirmed.
A foreman working for Thomas G. Gallagher Inc. should have known employees would rig and hoist a pipe assembly that wasn’t secured and ultimately crushed the worker’s hand, Judge David J. Barron of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit wrote for a unanimous panel in a Dec. 4 opinion.
