Maine Utility Pole Inspection Company Fined in Worker Heat Death

A Maine utility pole inspection company faces $18,564 in fines after a worker at a Nebraska worksite died from excessive temperatures in July. Temperatures that day reached a high of 87.8 degrees, according to the OSHA citations.

Anson, Maine-based Smith Mountain Investments LLC was cited by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration after an employee became ill while shoveling a hole with another worker for more than 12 hours at a worksite in Inman, Neb. His final body temperature was 106.3 degrees.
