The nitrogen release that killed six workers and injured a dozen more at a Gainesville, Ga., poultry plant last week occurred as unplanned maintenance was being performed on a processing and freezing line, the federal Chemical Safety Board said.
The deadly Jan. 28 event at the Foundation Food Group facility, happened along a line where chicken is processed, to include seasoning, cooking, freezing, and then packaging, the board said Monday in a brief updateon its probe of the incident.
