A cloud of toxic ammonia hospitalized 37 people after it leaked from storage tanks that a farm tractor was towing on a highway about 50 miles north of Chicago.
Emergency personnel were notified of a chemical release occurring in the village of Beach Park, Ill., at 4:30 a.m. on April 25, and police closed a one-mile perimeter around the spill site until 10 a.m., Christopher Covelli, a spokesman for the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, said in an interview.
