House Funding Panel to OSHA: Where’s Workplace Violence Rule?

Federal worker safety agencies would face closer congressional scrutiny if lawmakers adopt several policy riders included in the House Appropriations Committee’s proposed fiscal year 2020 budget for the agencies.

The majority-Democrat committee approved the proposed spending plan by a party-line 30-23 vote on May 8.

The proposed policy riders also reject Trump administration plans to reorganize portions of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Mine Safety and Health Administration.

The increased oversight proposals and opposition to the reorganizations largely mirror criticisms from worker advocacy groups and unions about the Trump administration’s management of the agencies.
