Hog Slaughter-Slowing Court Ruling Faces Pork Producer Pushback

A Minnesota federal judge’s decision to throw out a USDA directive speeding up hog slaughter lines now faces resistance from four U.S. pork producers.

Seaboard Foods LLC, Quality Pork Processors Inc., Clemens Food Group LLC, and Wholestone Farms Cooperative Inc. want to intervene in a 2019 lawsuit filed by the United Food and Commercial Workers Union against the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the specific purpose of appealing U.S. District Judge Joan Erickson’s ruling that accelerating line speeds for some companies violated the federal Administrative Procedure Act.
