A Georgia peanut facility faces proposed fines of more than $300,000 and tougher enforcement regimens for allegedly failing to protect workers from falls, potential fires, and confined-space hazards.

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited Great Southern Peanut LLC in Leesburg, Ga., on Sept. 18 for nine alleged violations that it had identified previously at the company.

Because the company had been cited for the same violations within the past three years, it was placed in a “severe violator” enforcement program, which strengthens oversight.
