Federal Safety Agencies at Odds on Reporting Worker Injuries

A debate over the workplace injury information that employers have to provide the government is pitting a federal safety regulator against its research counterpart.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is proposing to drop its mandate that work sites send the agency reports on every injury and illness (RIN:1218-AD17). Another federal agency, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, is calling for OSHA to keep the reporting mandate and offering to help analyze the reports.
