Fatal Fall at Maine Job Site Leads to $1.8 Million Fine

A Maine roofing contractor faces nearly $1.8 million in fines, in addition to criminal charges, in connection with an employee’s fatal fall in 2018.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration June 11 issued two citations against Shawn D. Purvis, owner of Purvis Home Improvement Co. in Saco, Maine, for what the agency called “egregious willful, repeat, and serious workplace safety violations.” The agency proposed fines against Purvis of $1,792,726 for the alleged safety violations at two job sites in Portland and Old Orchard Beach, Maine.
