Failure to Pay Safety Fines Can Mean Jail Time for Owners

The Department of Labor increasingly is seeking jail time against employers who fail to pay delinquent safety fines, one industry attorney tells Bloomberg Law.

What has previously been a rare occurrence—the government’s pursuit of contempt and criminal charges against an employer for safety violations—is seeing a recent increase, Benjamin Ross, a safety compliance attorney representing employers at Fisher & Phillips LLP, said.
