Ergonomics High on List of Marijuana Farm Worker Safety Hazards

Workers in the legal marijuana farming industry face the same general safety and health hazards as their counterparts growing and tending other plants, according to the first federal study looking at cannabis harvesting medical issues.

Ergonomic and musculoskeletal problems, as well as exposure to airborne fungi and bacteria, top the list of hazards employers and workers need to be aware of, the evaluation’s lead author, James Couch, told Bloomberg BNA. Couch is an industrial hygienist in the Division of Surveillance, Hazard Evaluations and Field Studies at the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, which ran the study.
