Employers Still Await Guidance on Worker Safety Incentive Programs

Seven months after the Trump administration began a review of OSHA’s effort encouraging employers to follow detailed safety and health strategies called Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP), supporters are still waiting for the agency to outline new directions.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has revised one Obama-era guidance memo covering acceptable VPP incentive programs. However, the agency is still sorting through more than 250 recommendations that employer and worker safety organizations made on the topic.

Despite the wait, VPP proponents are optimistic, saying they believe the Obama-era OSHA stressed enforcement over assistance efforts.
