Employer Gets Manslaughter Charge After Fatal Trench Collapse

A worker’s death in a trench collapse in Granby, Colo., has resulted in a manslaughter charge against his employer.

Charged with a Class 4 felony is Bryan D. Johnson, owner of ContractOne Inc. of Avon, Colo., in connection with the June 2018 construction site death of one of his employees, Rosario Martinez-Lopez, according to the Granby Police Department.

Martinez-Lopez was tying a 0.75-inch copper piping in a main water line, about 8-feet deep in a trench, according to an Occupational Safety and Health Administration inspection notice, when the trench collapsed and buried him. He suffered major head trauma and later ...
