A New York City excavation subcontractor already facing homicide charges from a fatal April 2015 trench collapse has been indicted for allegedly hiding dozens of workers on the payroll from his workers’ compensation carrier, Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. announced March 1 (People v. Cholowsky, indictment).
In an indictment filed in state Supreme Court for New York County, Sky Materials Corp. and its owner, Michael Cholowsky, were accused of concealing some $3.7 million in payroll over two years to save more than $1.1 million on workers’ compensation premiums.
