Construction Fall Protection Rules Top OSHA Violations List

Rules to protect construction workers from falls continue top OSHA’s list of most commonly violated standards, the agency said Oct. 18 at the annual National Safety Congress in Anaheim, Calif.

Patrick Kapust, deputy director of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s enforcement branch, said there were 6,929 violations of the fall protection standard cited in fiscal year 2016, ending Sept. 30.

The preliminary top 10 most-cited violations for fiscal 2016 are:

1. Fall protection – 6,929 violations (29 C.F.R. 1926.501)
2. Hazard communication – 5,677 violations (29 C.F.R. 1910.1200)
3. Scaffolding – 3,906 violations (29 C.F.R. 1926.451)
