Colorado marijuana industry workers can face a variety of safety hazards, from chemical exposure to explosions, and the state is offering guidance on workplace safety for employers who sell the product.
The industry has several particular worker safety and health considerations, said Roberta Smith, manager of the Department of Public Health and Environment’s Occupational Health program. Fires and explosions can occur during production of marijuana extracts and lead to fatal injuries, she said in a Feb. 7 statement.
