Boston Mayor Proposes Rule to Vet Contractors for Safety

Construction companies that want to build in Boston would have to be vetted for any OSHA or other safety violations, under an ordinance proposed by Mayor Marty Walsh (D) Nov. 14.

The ordinance would require construction companies seeking permits to work in Boston, to first sign an affidavit detailing their work safety history, including resolved and outstanding Occupational Safety and Health Administration violations.

The rule would also grant new authority to city officers to deny, revoke or suspend a permit to a person, corporation or business with a history of unsafe practices.
