Whirlpool Would-Be Oven Class Action Nixed

Whirlpool Corp. won dismissal, at least for now, of a proposed class action alleging the company knew about, but didn’t disclose, safety risks associated with Jenn-Air double oven racks (Burdt v. Whirlpool Corp., 2015 BL 251741, N.D. Cal., C 15-01563 JSW, 8/5/15).

William Burdt alleged his wife suffered first- and second-degree burns in December 2014 when a roll-out rack in their Jenn-Air model JJW3830WS double oven collapsed after slipping out of its guide. This caused the dish she was cooking to tip over and its contents to spill on her.
