Whirlpool Corp. was accused in a lawsuit of making products that contributed to a 2017 fire at Grenfell Tower in London that killed 72 people.
- The suit, filed June 11 in Philadelphia’s Court of Common Pleas, also names Arconic Inc. and Saint-Gobain Corp.
- The fire started when a Whirlpool fridge-freezer malfunctioned, causing its plastic backing to ignite, the complaint says
- Arconic manufactured “highly combustible cladding” and Saint-Gobain’s Celotex produced “highly combustible insulation” used in the cladding, according to the complaint
- The suit seeks to represent hundreds of victims and relatives of those killed
