Toyota Beats Sequoia Sudden Acceleration Claims in Puerto Rico

Toyota Motor Corp. and Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc. brushed off claims that a woman was seriously injured in a car crash when her 2004 Toyota Sequoia suddenly accelerated, after the District of Puerto Rico found she failed to show that a design defect caused the accident.

The testimony of an eyewitness that he saw the Sequoia’s brake lights go on and off several times, but the car continued to accelerate forward, isn’t enough proof of a defect to survive summary judgment, the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico said July 2.
