Snapchat Lacks Duty to Prevent Distracted Driving, Court Affirms

Snap Inc. isn’t liable to a man who was badly injured by a driver allegedly distracted by a speed-recording feature on the company’s Snapchat app because it didn’t owe him a duty to change the product’s design, a split Georgia appeals court ruled.

“Put simply, Georgia law does not impose a general duty to prevent people from committing torts while misusing a manufacturer’s product,” the Georgia Court of Appeals, Third Division, said Oct. 30.
