Reynolds Challenges Second City’s Flavored-Tobacco Ban (1)

R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. and sibling companies filed suit against Edina, Minn., to stop its recently enacted ban on flavored tobacco products, including menthol cigarettes, about two weeks after a similar challenge to a Los Angeles County ordinance.

Edina’s ordinance, adopted Tuesday, is unconstitutional because it conflicts with federal law, the Reynolds American Inc. units said Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota.

Menthol cigarettes have been criticized as being marketed to the Black community and having an outsize health impact on Black smokers, including in a recent suit by the African American Tobacco Control Leadership ...
