R.J. Reynolds Urges Halt to Already Paused California Flavor Ban

California’s statewide tobacco flavor ban, currently on hold during a referendum effort, should be enjoined in the short term in the event the number of valid signatures isn’t enough to put the referendum on the ballot, R.J. Reynolds, Philip Morris USA Inc., and other companies told a federal court in the state.

“If the referendum fails to qualify for lack of verified signatures, then SB793 will go into effect and Plaintiffs will need a preliminary injunction immediately,” they said in a filing Thursday, referring to the law prohibiting the sale of menthol cigarettes and other tobacco products.
