Pfizer Beats Consumer Suit Over Recalled Smoking Cessation Drug

Pfizer Inc. shook off a suit by smokers who alleged it deceived them about Chantix that was recalled because of a cancer-causing substance, as a federal court in New York said the consumers didn’t show that it made false statements concerning the smoking-cessation drug.

Roslyn Harris and Mary Allen sued Pfizer in August 2021. The proposed class action followed the company’s voluntary recall of Chantix found to be contaminated with excess levels of N-nitroso-varenicline, a nitrosamine compound classified as possibly carcinogenic.
