Oregon-Labeled Pinot Noir Really Made in California, Suit Says

Wine maker Copper Cane LLC tricked enthusiasts by portraying its Elouan pinot noir as made in specific areas of Oregon such as the Willamette Valley, but the wine was fermented and finished in California, according to a proposed class suit in California federal court.

Consumers believe wines, especially pinot noir varieties, produced in the Willamette Valley and other specific growing areas in Oregon possess superior flavors and characteristics not found in those wines produced elsewhere, the suit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California alleges.
