New Orleans duped African-Americans into buying homes on a landfill and failed to disclose that the development was built on toxic waste and contaminated soil, according to a lawsuit filed by residents in a Louisiana federal court.
Gordon Plaza residents filed their claim under the Resource Recovery and Conservation Act, saying the city owned and operated the landfill and contributed to the disposal of solid and hazardous waste there, according to the lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana May 15.
