Maker of Recalled Blood-Pressure Drug Hit with Class Suit

A generic blood pressure medication that was recalled by the Food and Drug Administration in July is now the subject of a proposed class suit in federal court in St. Louis.

The lawsuit concerns drugs containing the active ingredient valsartan, used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure, that was supplied to drug makers by Zhejiang Huahai Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd.

The drugs were recalled by FDA in July after testing showed valsartan supplied by Zhejiang Huahai had been adulterated with a carcinogen, N-nitrosodimethylamine, also known as NDMA. Regulators in the European Union, Canada, and India have also begun investigations...
