Louisiana Projects Need New Look for Wetlands Impact, Suit Says

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers needs to study the impacts of permits for projects allowing destruction of Louisiana wetlands that would otherwise help absorb floodwaters, according to a lawsuit filed Thursday in a federal court in the state.

The permits at issue are two of “dozens” of permits issued by the Corps under the Clean Water Act in west St. Tammany Parish, La., that have “eliminated hundreds of acres of flood-absorbing wetlands,” a property owner and environmental groups say in the filing in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
