LG Faulty-Fridge Deal Gets Quick Initial Approval by Court

LG Electronics U.S.A. Inc. and refrigerator owners have arrived at a fair settlement, a federal court in New Jersey ruled.

“In addition to substantial monetary compensation, the Settlement provides the Class with valuable prospective relief in the form of warranty extensions and modifications to LG’s customer service protocols and procedures,” Judge Madeline Cox Arleo said Wednesday for the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.

Arleo is likely to certify the proposed nationwide class, she said. The would-be class numbers about 1.5 million people, according to the plaintiffs.
