Kona Coffee Growers Seek Nod for New Deception Deal (Correct)

Coffee growers in Kona, Haw., asked a federal judge to approve a proposed class settlement with two of the last four remaining defendants in litigation alleging suppliers and retailers deceptively marketed ordinary brew as highly desired Kona coffee.

L&K Coffee Co. agreed to pay $6.15 million. The settlement also includes label changes that will indicate the minimum amount of authentic Kona coffee beans in the product, the growers said Thursday, asking the US District Court for the Western District of Washington for initial approval. The agreement releases L&K owner Kevin Kihnke of liability.
