J&J Benecol Spread Buyers Seek First Nod for $2 Million Deal

Consumers alleging Johnson & Johnson and McNeil Nutritionals LLC misled them into thinking Benecol spread had no trans fats urged a federal court in California to preliminarily approve a $2 million class settlement that potentially provides full refunds.

JoAnn Martinelli alleged Benecol Regular and Light spread labels were false because they contained trans fat from partially hydrogenated oils. The incorrect labels led her to buy Benecol over other brands and pay a price premium, she said.
