Godiva ‘Belgium 1926' Chocolate Not from Belgium, Suit Says

Godiva Chocolatier Inc. tricks consumers into thinking chocolate sold in the U.S. comes from Belgium when it’s really made in Reading, Pa., a new suit says.

Steve Hesse and Adam Buxbaum say the confectioner misleads with its “Belgium 1926” statement on labels, Godiva storefronts, supermarket display stands, and print and social media advertising.

Godiva creates the false impression that the chocolates are made in Belgium and imported to the United States to enhance their luxury image, according to the proposed class suit filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
