Godiva ‘Belgium 1926' Chocolate Deceptive Label Suit Advances

Godiva Chocolatier Inc. can’t dodge a proposed class suit alleging it dupes consumers about the source of its chocolate because reasonable consumers could view the phrase “Belgium 1926" as representing that the Pennsylvania-made confections are manufactured in Belgium, a federal court in New York said.

New Yorker Steve Hesse and Californian Adam Buxbaum alleged they overpaid for Godiva chocolates, believing they were luxury confections imported from Belgium. Belgium is widely regarded as producing among the highest quality chocolates in the world, they said.
