Gerber, Other Baby Foods Contain Heavy Metals, CR Says (1)

Two-thirds of 50 baby and toddler food products distributed nationwide and tested by Consumer Reports contained “worrisome” levels of heavy metals, the testing organization said Aug. 16.

Most of the products tested were from the two biggest U.S. baby food manufacturers, Beech-Nut Nutrition Corp. and Nestle S.A.-owned Gerber, the group’s report said.

Fifteen of the products tested contained such high amounts of metals such as lead, arsenic and cadmium that they “would pose potential health risks to a child regularly eating just one serving or less per day,” according to Consumer Report’s new study.
