General Mills Granola Bar Suit Dismissal Appealed

Consumers challenging General Mills Inc. over chemical residue on “natural” granola bars are appealing a federal court decision that threw out their suits (In re General Mills Glyphosate Litig., D. Minn., No. 16-2689, Notice of appeal 8/14/17).

Purchasers alleged Nature Valley granola bars are deceptively labeled “100 percent natural whole oats” when they contain trace amounts of glyphosate, the active ingredient in the weedkiller Roundup.

The U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota dismissed several would-be class suits last month, saying the plaintiffs failed to show deception.
