Fyre Festival Fraud Suits to Proceed Separately

A manageable number of lawsuits arising from the ill-fated Fyre Festival, and default proceedings against some defendants, led the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation to refuse a request that the ticketholders’ fraud suits proceed together (In re Fyre Festival Litig., J.P.M.L., No. 2787, 8/2/17).

Plaintiffs in six would-be class actions allege the defendants falsely promoted the Fyre Festival as a luxury music event on a private Bahamian island.

Some vacationers say they paid as much as $12,000 per person for the April 2017 event.
