Ford Wins New Look at $8 Million Asbestos Award in Delaware

Ford Motor Co. will have a chance to upend or reduce its share of a $40 million asbestos exposure verdict after Delaware’s highest court found the trial court failed to properly evaluate whether the total award was excessive.

The trial court erred by focusing on whether Ford’s $8 million share of damages, rather than the total award, was too high, the Delaware Supreme Court said Dec. 2.

The ruling doesn’t impact the jury’s award of $1 million in punitive damages against Ford.
