Flexsteel Must Pay $9.8 Million For Superfund Cleanup Under Deal

Flexsteel Industries Inc. must pay $9.8 million to clean up a Superfund site in Elkhart, Ind., and reimburse the government for the costs that it spent on the site, according to a consent decree approved by a federal judge.

Flexsteel’s manufacturing operations at its facility—which was used to degrease and assemble vehicle seats—contributed to groundwater pollution, the US alleged in a Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act suit.
