California Governor Signs Flavored, Menthol Tobacco Ban (1)

Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed into law Friday a measure to ban fruit, mint, and other flavored tobacco products from sale.

The measure (S.B. 793) goes into effect Jan. 1, 2021 and will make California the largest state to implement such a policy. It will prohibit businesses from selling flavored vaping liquid, leaf tobacco, and menthol cigarettes. Shisha tobacco for hookahs, loose-leaf tobacco, and premium cigars are exempt from the ban. The California Senate passed Friday on a 34-0 vote with five Republicans not voting.
